A PhD is sometimes also called a doctorate or doctor of philosophy. Once you have completed a university degree you can do a PhD which involves doing research on something nobody has ever done before and then writing a very big report on it. A PhD typically takes around 4 years but it can vary and at the end of it you get to use the title Dr.
