I’d say about an 8. There are always things like sorting emails and forms to fill in and these are much less interesting but they are still an important part of my job so I still make sure that I do them!

It varies from day to day. Some days are an absolute 10 when I get to do really exciting science and engineering, but others can be a 5 when I have lots of emails to go through or meetings that aren’t interesting to me. So I’d say 7.5 overall!

This definitely varies day-to-day, but I’d say an 8 on average! The days I enjoy most are when I’m in the lab and all the experiments are going to plan…I also love public engagement activities (like this!) and chatting to people about my research. The less fun days are when things are going wrong with bits of equipment, or when I am completing applications for pots of money. Being a scientist means very day is different, which is really exciting and keeps you on your toes!

Some days are a definitely 10 and others a 5. But like other’s I would average an 8. Most of the time I love my job, because I work with nice people and learn new things. But some days are frustrating when I’m not getting the information I need or I have lots of paperwork to do.

As with the others, it varies a lot from day to day. Some days, when all goes well, certainly a 10. At other times it drops to 6 or 7. Overall, however, I would say 9 – but probably because I am formally retired and work only when I want to on the projects that I find interesting.

As with others, it varies. I feel incredibly lucky to have the job I do as going to work never feels like a chore. I get to do some incredible things in my job like travelling to use huge X-ray facilities but then again there are things which are less great like paperwork and failed experiments are always a bit disappointing. I’d say a solid 8
