This is an excellent question. Some plants will be able to adapt more than others- it depends on the species. Evolution and adaptations take thousands, sometimes millions, of years to occur, but organisms also have something called ‘phenotypic plasticity’ which means they can adapt quickly- to an extent to changing conditions. The plant species that live in places where conditions change a lot…like in the UK where we have cold winters and warm summers…are more likely to survive and adapt to climate change compared to plants that live in areas that don’t change much throughout the year.
